Students

At the Shannon Oaks Church Student Ministries, our goal is to partner with parents to lead teenagers into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

As we look at helping teenagers grow, we want to make sure we engage them on all fronts. That means everything we do falls into one of three categories: wonder, passion, or discovery. At the heart of who we are, we realize that we are created to experience things in our relationships with God, with ourselves, and with others. That’s why our messages always reinforce the following truths:

Wonder: I am created to pursue an authentic relationship with my Creator
Passion: I exist to demonstrate God’s love to a broken world every day
Discovery: I belong to Jesus Christ and I define who I am by

One way teenagers experience wonder is through worship. This is the centerpiece of our Wednesday night environment called FUEL. At FUEL, teenagers worship God in awe and wonder, receive relevant and engaging messages, and participate in crazy games and competitions. This is a place to bring your friends, hang out, and have fun!

One way teenagers experience passion is through service. This is the centerpiece of our Sunday morning environment called MOTION. At MOTION, teenagers put into practice the biblical principles we teach at FUEL and in LIFE GROUPS. Instead of coming to another class and receiving on Sunday mornings, teenagers come to church and give to other ministries. For example, students at Shannon Oaks facilitate large group and small group activities in our Children’s ministry environment, they open doors and hand out bulletins, they park cars, they prepare communion, and they do a host of other tasks that help them share the passions they have with our church.

One way teenagers experience discovery is through small groups. This is the centerpiece of our Sunday night environments called LIFE GROUPS. Age-appropriate life groups are held each Sunday night, where committed adults lead teenagers through object lessons, games, and discussion questions in a safe and consistent environment. For a current list of student life groups, their leaders, and their locations, click here. Our small groups meet on campus right after the large group portion of FUEL.

Whether through worship, service, or small groups, every activity in our middle school and high school environments is intentional and focused on reinforcing these truths. These are the main ways that we can partner with parents to lead teenagers into a growing relationship with Jesus.

In addition to all this, weekly emails are sent to parents alerting them to each week’s lesson, the topics we cover in our series, and other events and important information concerning students. These emails give questions, ideas, and other prompts to parents so that they can initiate conversations with their teenagers about what they are learning and how they are growing.

We also create multiple opportunities for students to connect with wonder, passion, and discovery through retreats, camps, and missions. To find out more about these annual opportunities, click on the links below, or visit socparents.com our Family Ministry website.
