Your debt, paid by another…
A little over 2,000 years ago someone named Jesus walked on this earth and gave us some basic “rules” to live by. One of the most famous is called “The Golden Rule.” In this and many other ways Jesus taught us that we should care for one another. We should be nice. We should treat others with courtesy, respect, and even with generosity. (Then He showed what He meant by giving us the greatest gift anyone could ever offer. But more on that in a minute…)
So, someone took that whole concept of caring for one another seriously and decided to do something outrageously nice for you. Simple – yes. Random? Sure. But meaningful, right?
Why would someone take Jesus’ teaching seriously? After all, He lived a long time ago, in a different country, and certainly in a different culture. What does Jesus know about 21st century America? The answer to that question is really quite simple.
Some truths are timeless, love is a timeless truth, and, get ready… God loves you.
No matter what. He knows all about you and loves you anyway. Sure, He knows about that thing you did, what you said last week when you were mad, and what you thought 15 minutes ago. It really doesn’t matter. He loves you. He also knew that one day you would have a debt to pay, and He knew that you would be unable to pay it, so He paid it for you in advance. In fact, the Bible says that God “so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (it is in the book of John, chapter 3) That was His gift – a gift of grace, the gift of perfect love. His greatest desire is for you to experience that love.
Someone who has experienced God’s love decided to share it with you in a way that made sense. They paid for something for you. Because it surprised you, now you have a chance to see why they would do such an outrageous thing!
Perhaps you’ve already come face to face with God’s love, and it has already changed your life. If so – maybe you are ready to randomly share that love with someone just like someone shared it with you. If so, click HERE to get started.
Perhaps this experience impacted you at a very critical time in your life, or maybe it affirmed you, lifted you up, or changed your perspective on Jesus, church, or “Christians”. If so, would you share your story with us so that we can share it with others? You can share your story by posting to the comments on this page.
Maybe this whole idea of someone you don’t know “loving you” is completely foreign to you. That’s ok! A relationship with Jesus is just like any other relationship – it starts with an introduction, and grows from there. By understanding the words of Jesus and connecting with others who have experienced His love in their life, you can begin a relationship with the one who loves you perfectly. If you’d like to know more, we’d love to introduce you. Just contact us, or perhaps you’d like to join us this Sunday. Service information is below.
